The fine lacquered grey-grained dial makes a striking impression with its elegant Roman numerals and classic railroad chapter ring, which are engraved in the surface of the dial and subsequently silver-plated. The delicate Flying Tourbillon catches the eye and forms a visual counterpoint to Glashutte Original’s signature Panorama Date. Polished white gold hands in the classic “poire” (pear) shape complete the overall appearance in a harmonious fashion.
Against gravity
The tourbillon’s entire oscillation and escapement system turns around its own axis once a minute, which compensates for inaccuracies caused by gravity. Thanks to its anchoring on one side only, the Flying Tourbillon offers a clear view of the mechanism. It is also light as a feather: Glashutte Original’s “flying” rotating carriage weighs only 0.2 grams. It is comprised of 72 components in all, which are decorated and assembled by hand.
Refined finishes
Ticking within the watch is the elaborately finished Calibre 94-03 manufacture movement with automatic winding. A variety of typical features of Glashutte watchmaking can easily be admired through the sapphire crystal case back: the Glashutte stripe finish, the perlage finish, blued screws and the bi-colour galvanic, skeletonized rotor with Double-G symbol and 21-carat gold oscillating mass.
